In July 2013 Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat received a donation in used soccer gear from Smart Soccer Academy through World Leadership School and carried to Costa Rica by WLS partner school Presbyterian Day School – that propelled us to launch a permanent Saturday Soccer School at la Guaria soccer pitch every Saturday morning from 8am-10am.
Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat brings the equipment and juice and a snack and we practice and play with kids of all ages (under 17) in a non competitive setting, completely free for participants, with no requirements for specific clothes or shoes (since that usually excludes most of the kids that want to play!!).
We have a local coach who volunteers his time, Gerardo Miranda, who Chilamate Rainforest supported this year with a $1000 scholarship for an official training, improving his profesional coaching qualifications.
Since then WLS faculty groups and partner school Crane, as well as some visiting families have also supported with balls and jerseys and cleats, new and used and we are always looking for more donations in soccer equipment (cleats, shin guards, balls, cones, jerseys, shorts, socks, etc.!) Please be in touch with us if you can help, and we can arrange a way to get it here!
Our team loves to have the opportunity to meet soccer players from around the world so we love to coordinate inter cultural games and encounters as well, be in touch!
Also, if you are interested in volunteering as assistant coach, let us know! Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
