Experiences
- A GREAT base for exploring the Sarapiqui area Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat is a GREAT base for exploring the Sarapiqui area. The food is very good and the service outstanding. I loved the covered walkways connecting the buildings. The management was super responsive to changes we had to make and they were very helpful in booking great natural history tours.read moreread lessTMWildMed12/23/2024

Great stay in the rainforest Such a beautiful place! The room was very comfortable. The staff was warm and welcoming. We felt surrounded by rainforest, but it was still easy to leave the hotel to explore the surrounding area. We took a guided walk of the trails right on the property, and those trails are independently accessible as well. The included breakfast was delicious. We heard lots of howler monkeys we only wish we had been able to see them!read moreread lessJoshua B4/01/2024 - Wonderful and Inviting Wonderful place to stay - all the staff was so friendly and helpful, our suite was perfect surrounded by the rainforest, great birding on the grounds and nearby, and loved the fresh, local fruit at breakfast and dinner. We stayed two nights and could have stayed longer!read moreread lessctmero2/12/2024
- Best (eco)hotel of the entire trip. Perfect for sporting dart frogs Best hotel of the entire trip. Truly eco and worth paying a visit. We enjoyed their food and facilities, but the best part was spotting dart frogs a few meters from the room. Besides that we could swim and get some adrenaline doing rafting in the Sarapiqui river nearby. Worth spending a few nights!!!read moreread lessGabriel V.1/13/2024
- Unique and friendly jungle experience This eco retreat offers a unique experience in Costa Rica. If you are expecting 5 star luxury this is not for you. But if you want to stay in the jungle in perfectly comfortable accommodation, hosted by Megan and her friendly family and staff it’s a great choice. Dinner and breakfast are hearty and good value, and the night walk they organised was really good.read moreread lessSimon G.2/29/2024

Inspired by our history, surrounded by nature to offer a unique experience
When you stay with us, you become part of that living story. You help protect biodiversity, support local livelihoods, and keep this corner of the Mesoamerican corridor thriving.
Regeneration isn’t a trend—it’s our way of life.
Regeneration
We didn’t just build a lodge—we planted a seed for regeneration.
Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat was born in 2006 to protect a precious stretch of rainforest along the Sarapiquí River and create a place that gives back—to the forest, to our neighbors, and to future generations.
We started with sustainability: solar power, rainwater systems, and natural building practices. But over time, we realized it wasn’t enough. Regeneration became our path—restoring ecosystems, strengthening community ties, and expanding conservation to over 42 hectares of lowland rainforest.
