Welcome to Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat

Our Story

Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat was born in 2006 from the shared vision of Davis, a Sarapiquí local, and Meghan, an Irish-Canadian, to protect a vital piece of rainforest and support the community around it. What began as a small, handmade lodge on the river has become a living space for conservation, learning, and connection—with trails, classrooms, and partnerships rooted in respect for nature and people. Today, Davis and his daughter Lluvia lead the project on-site, while Meghan supports from abroad. Their mission remains the same: to help the forest thrive by making it meaningful and beneficial for those who call this place home—and for every guest who chooses to be part of this journey.

Our Values

Regeneration

We didn’t just build a lodge—we planted a seed for regeneration.

Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat was born in 2006 to protect a precious stretch of rainforest along the Sarapiquí River and create a place that gives back—to the forest, to our neighbors, and to future generations.

We started with sustainability: solar power, rainwater systems, and natural building practices. But over time, we realized it wasn’t enough. Regeneration became our path—restoring ecosystems, strengthening community ties, and expanding conservation to over 42 hectares of lowland rainforest.
