Amazing lodge An amazing place and a real advert for using local people. Everyone working there was polite and friendly and the local guides used, for night walks, bird walks or medical plant tour were excellent. Would recommend taking the biggest apartment on first floor as you up a bit higher and we saw howlers, toucans etc from there. Also bats made a guest visit everyday. You are right in rainforest which means probably a lot of rain and hence very lush and muddy.

Family fun in nature This rainforest retreat allows you to feel deep within the rainforest, surrounded by nature full of poison dart frogs and howler monkeys, but to have the safe haven of a comfortable room with hot water and all you could want. We LOVED it!
Traveling with a 4-year-old, I wasn't sure if we could fully participate, but it was great for the whole family. We went off hiking the trails twice over 3 days, and saw all sorts of interesting birds, had howlers yell at us from right above, got caught in a rainstorm and got completely covered in mud, and I would say those treks were the highlight of the trip.
The food is also incredible (get the buffet dinner - it's worth it!), and the staff are friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place for any adventurous nature-lovers that want to see a unique and authentic side of Costa Rica!

Unique and friendly jungle experience This eco retreat offers a unique experience in Costa Rica. If you are expecting 5 star luxury this is not for you. But if you want to stay in the jungle in perfectly comfortable accommodation, hosted by Megan and her friendly family and staff it’s a great choice. Dinner and breakfast are hearty and good value, and the night walk they organised was really good.

Awesome!!!!! A great warm welcome already in the parking lot by local Hernando. Then received a warm welcome from Meghan and Kevin. Our stay was only for 1 night, but longer would certainly have been nice. All the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Booking a kayak tour at reception is highly recommended, we really enjoyed the nice accommodation and nature. Even the howler monkeys at night were a gift!!!

Best jungle experience in this region If you want a real jungle experience, this is the place. Combine that with comfortable rooms, a hot shower, stunning nature, very friendly staff and great food. That is Chilamate Eco Retreat. We went for a rafting tour (booked in the hotel), it was AWESOME! Our guide was a pro-kayaker and knew this river like his back pocket. Friendly, funny and explains a lot about the nature there. The hotel provided water shoes as we did not have them. Also book the Night Walk in the hotel. Because the garden and jungle around the hotel is full of animals! You won't spot it yourself, but with a guide you will see amazing nature. What we saw in the jungle garden: armadillo, snakes, banana spider, red eyed frog, poison dart frog, opossum, basilisk, bullfrog, bullet ant, lizards, and more! So, we only got 1 advice for travellers: Go here. There is lots to see. Also good food at Sodas around the hotel.
