Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat began working with the newly founded World Leadership Foundation In 2011, looking for strategies to improve the quality of education in rural Sarapiqui, Costa Rica. That quest turned into Tablab and subsequently what is now known as TeachUNITED.

TeachUNITED works side-by-side with educators in rural communities to transform teaching and learning. We partner with rural schools for an intensive two-year program that includes on-site teacher coaching, a robust training program, and mobile off-the-grid technology. TeachUNITED delivers an arsenal of tools and support to help our partner schools join the ranks of the most successful schools on earth. Once the two-year program is complete, schools become part of the global TeachUNITED network, where teacher graduates mentor the next cohort of educators to create long-term, sustainable change.

Retreat owner Meghan Casey is the Director of TeachUNITED in Costa Rica, as part of Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat’s over-arching vision of brining sustainable development and opportunities to theĀ
community of Sarapiqui, one of the richest places in all of Costa Rica in terms of biodiversity, yet one of the poorest by economic standards, due mainly to the predominance of mono crop pineapple and banana farms in the region.
