5 star ratingAmazing Community and Sustainability Project We decided to stay here on our way to Limon from Monteverde. It was a perfect stop over. The owners and staff are amazingly friendly and knowledgeable. It was a great value. The facilities are beautifully nestled in the forest, extremely clean and everything you need. We loved the family friendly atmosphere in all of the common areas. Next time we will spend more time exploring the river and trails.

5 star ratingAmazing authentic tours on offer and friendly staff Had an amazing few days here with my 4 yr old daughter. Due to some building work, we got upgraded to the fantastic family suite, which had a special little room where we could observe jungle life. Meghan and her team (especially Roger) were super friendly, and always available for any question or booking. We went on 2 of the many tours they offer - many of which are partnerships with local people - trying to give employment to the local community - the river tour and the organic farm tour. I would highly recommend the organic farm tour. My 4 yr old was kept entertained by playing with Daniel's grandson and holding all the little piglets. Amazing free breakfast and dinner was great too (though a little pricey) . Would highly recommend this place as the owners are so committed

5 star ratingScenic property! We loved Chilamate! We are a family of 5 with 2 teenagers and 1 tween. We stayed in 2 rooms, next to each other. Our kids, including the adults, loved the beauty of our surroundings. Our rooms were next to the river. The sound of the river lulled us to sleep at night. Next to our rooms were ample decks with plenty of hammocks, a mini fridge (it came in very handy), and plenty of outdoor furniture. It was very peaceful. Megan, her family and staff, go out of their way to make you feel at home. They were personable and professional. They really care about their guests. One day we had an insane down pour with wicked lightening (it was beautiful, our kids had never seen anything like it before) we decided to wait out the storm in the parking area, Meagan made sure to send umbrellas for all of us. Also, my husband wasn’t feeling well one night, Meagan’s husband sent tea to our room to help him feel better.
Breakfast was delicious. Dinner was also very good and reasonably priced.
On the property tour we were able to see toucans, humming birds, poisonous frogs and many other creatures.
We felt welcomed and very safe during our stay.
Chilamate Retreat is a unique place! Thank you for a memorable stay!

5 star ratingDefinitely a chill out place After a long drive we arrived at Chilimate to be greeted by Mehgan and her husband David. We were offered a choice of rooms and opted for the one with the biggest decking area. The room was basic but clean and comfortable, although the lack of AC made it quite difficult to sleep as it was very hot and humid during our stay. The bathroom was compact but had hot and cold water both in the bathroom sink and the shower which was a bonus.Meghan will lend you a hairdryer if you need one. There is also a laundry service-put as much as you like in a bag and it will cost you $10 but be aware the clothes are only washed and dried-not ironed.
Meals are served buffet style in a large spacious dining area and the food was delicious and very reasonable. There is an opportunity to take a nature walk after breakfast with a local guide and although I did not go on the walk my husband was very impressed with his knowledge and ability to see wildlife which was very well camouflaged. Our guide was Miguel and he was very interesting to talk to about the wildlife and the surrounding area.
We were made to feel very welcome here and it was nice just to relax on the decking and chill out for a couple of days. More
